For a mother, breastfeeding is more than just nutrition—it is a divine duty and a biological miracle. At the Children's Gastroliver Center, we believe that modern medical science doesn't contradict faith; rather, it confirms it.

Here is what every mother needs to know about the spiritual and scientific power of breastfeeding.

1. The Divine Wisdom (Quranic Reference)

More than 1,400 years ago, the Holy Quran laid out the perfect timeline for infant nutrition.

"Mothers may breastfeed their children two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing [period]." -Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:233

Science has now caught up with this wisdom. The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF now recommend breastfeeding for up to 2 years and beyond, mirroring exactly what was revealed centuries ago.

2. The Science of Bonding (The Love Hormone)

Why does breastfeeding feel so emotional? It's biology. When a mother breastfeeds, her brain releases a powerful hormone called Oxytocin (often known as the 'love hormone.')

  • For the Baby: It creates a sense of safety, reduces stress, and builds a lifelong emotional bond.
  • For the Mother: It reduces postpartum anxiety and lowers the risk of depression.

3. The 6-Month Rule: Exclusive vs. Complementary

While breastfeeding is perfect, timing is everything.

  • 0–6 Months (Exclusive): Your baby needs ONLY breast milk. No water, no honey, no formula. Breast milk provides 100% of the hydration and calories (~70 kcal/100ml) a baby needs.
  • After 6 Months (The 'Energy Gap'): As your baby grows, their calorie demand increases rapidly. Breast milk alone can no longer provide enough energy or iron.
    • Action: You MUST introduce complementary home-cooked foods (like mashed rice, lentils, veggies, and eggs) alongside breastfeeding.
    • Risk: Continuing only breast milk after 6 months can lead to Growth Faltering and malnutrition.

4. The Danger of Cow's Milk & Formula

A common mistake parents make is introducing cow's milk too early.

  • Cow's Milk Warning: Do not give cow's milk before 1 year of age. It contains high protein that can cause intestinal micro-bleeding, kidney stress, and iron deficiency Anemia .
  • Avoid Formula: Unless medically necessary, avoid packaged formula. It lacks the live antibodies and bonding hormones found in mother's milk.
